City Commemorates 114th Year of Independence


     The City Government of La Carlota joined the whole nation in commemorating the 114th year of the declaration of the Philippine Independence last June 12, 2012 at the city public plaza. The occasion which was co-sponsored by the Kababaihang Rizalista – La Carlota Chapter started at 7:00 a.m. with the simultaneous laying of wreaths at the Rizal and the Bonifacio monuments and the WW II Veterans marker.

     The guest speaker was Dr. Portia M. Mallorca, OIC City Schools Division Superintendent. She said that the theme, “Kalayaan: Pananagutan ng Bayan Tungo sa Tuwid na Daan” should inspire Filipinos to prepare and straighten the path for the succeeding generations by freeing themselves from the bondage of wrongdoings and from unprofitable practices of the past. She remarked that the best thing that the past can give is the lesson learned from it. She exhorted every Filipino to appreciate and emulate the lives of those people who fought for independence.

     City officials who attended the occasion were SP members Karen L. Aguirre, Rex R. Jalandoon, Luis J. Jalandoni III, Jacob E. Liansing, Jaime Manuel H. Mariño, Annabelle Q. Bermudo, Amalia D. Aguirre, Manuel R. Badillo, and Francisco D. Oplas, former SP member Rose L. Aguirre, Rev. Fr. Hubert M. Javellana, KRIKP officers and members, Insp. Depson Aguilar - BJMP, Lydia P. Ferrer and the retired teachers association, school heads and the teaching force from different public schools as well as students of various schools.

     The program started with an opening prayer by Rev. Amsil P. Alubog followed by the flag raising led by KRIKP President Marilou G. Aguirre and CInsp. Eduardo B. Corpuz – COP. Hon. Rex R. Jalandoon recited the Panunumpa sa Watawat and Hon. Karen L. Aguirre gave the welcome remarks. Cultural songs and folk dances were rendered by students from La Carlota South I and II Elem. Schools, Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School, and the La Carlota City College.

     The occasion concluded with the singing of Heaven Watch the Philippines conducted by Lady Noneeta R. Malacapay.
