KEEPING UP THE GOOD WORK

The world moves on despite the adverse economic situation.  We are not spared from the daily onslaught of difficulties, and probably more that will come.  So far we have survived and we keep on doing our daily tasks, not only for ourselves, but also for those who depend on us and expect so much from our efforts.

It is in time of hardship that we are drawn towards a cooperative spirit in our undertakings.  We draw strength, encouragement and inspiration from working together in unity.  We lean on one another to face the winds of change that blow in our direction.  It is our common perception that in hard times people display the spirit of unity.

Instead of blaming others for the woes we face, it is much better to take stock of our resources and maintain the will to survive.  We are here for a determined purpose.  We have every opportunity to prove we can be depended upon to bear the burden common to human kind.  We cannot allow the cruel onslaught of circumstances to bar our quest for the sublime and the noble aspects of our mission.

At this juncture we already know what deprivation is.  With the high cost of commodities necessary to maintain life we have to settle for whatever we can afford.  A few luxuries can be waived in favor of the essentials.  We have to remind ourselves that the assurance of sufficiency in the near future entirely depends on our contentment of our place in the order of things.  Prominence and being inconspicuous have their own roles in our lives.  The Lord, in his parable, did not commend a man for being great.  He said clearly:  Well done, thou good and faithful servant.  Part of the reqard is partaking of the joy of the Lord.

As workers in government service, we need to be constantly reminded that it is our interest and diligence in our tasks that count a lot.  Our wholehearted efforts to  support public service may not gain notice, but in the sum of things, every little talent we contribute to its success gives us inner satisfaction.  As one literary pundit said:  If you can’t be a moon, then just be star.  It doesn’t matter whether you are great or small.  Be the best of whatever you are.

So it is with us.  Hard times, good times, they are part of the cycle of existence.  Our diligence should not be hinged on the ebb and flow of the tides of life.  By working faithfully, by giving our service over what is required, and by reflecting freely in our countenance the virtues we possess, then perhaps we can enrich the lives of others.

Our area of responsibility may be limited, but we can widen our sphere of influence by serving as good examples.  We can be the best of what we are if we give the best of what we have.
