Sitio Paet Holds HVC Festival

           The harvest festival for high value vegetable crops was held recently at the new Bagsakan building, Sitio Paet, Brgy. Batuan with a short program attended by farmers from Sitio Nailab, Brgy. Ara-al and Brgy. Batuan who displayed their products for marketing to the buying public.

            Brgy. Captain Leoni Meih Salvador welcomed the guests and visitors while John D. Cabuguason, OIC Municipal Agricultural Officer gave the opening remarks.  Mayor Demie John C. Honrado in his inspirational message recalled that the project started in 2004 when he was yet the vice mayor to provide livelihood opportunities among small farmers and to support the program of the provincial government on organic farming.  “Sipag at tiyaga is the best motto in order to become a successful farmer,” he said.

            Those who attended the affair were SPMs Julian M. Chiang and Rosalinda L. Aguirre; Homer Q. Bermudo, Edgardo Canlas, Brgy. Captains Jose Luis J. Jalandoni, Abner Langam of Seminis Vegetable firm, Martin Beerwind of Seedbase, Lucille Gelbolea, Asst. Provincial Agriculturist, Armehenia Benedicto of the provincial center soil laboratory, and city employees.  The Seminis Vegetable Seeds group is a partner of the City Agriculture Office on high value crops projects.

           
            To date, there are two project areas supervised by the CAO:  Sitio Nailab  in Brgy. Ara-al covering 2.6 has. With 138 recipients, and Sitio Paet in Brgy. Batuan with 1.4 has. And 40 recipients.  The city government provided seeds, organic fertilizer and technical assistance.  Among the vegetables grown are ampalaya, tomato, eggplant, corn, papaya, bell pepper, squash, radish, watermelon, cucumber and pechay….RCV
