City Joins Reg’l Disaster Preparedness Olympic

           The City Disaster Coordinating Council, representing the City of La Carlota joined the regional disaster preparedness Olympic on September 23, 2009 at the Panaad Park and Stadium, Bacolod City together with participants from Iloilo, Panay and Negros Occidental.

            Special guests at the opening program were Defenses Secretary Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro, Dr. Anthony Golez – press undersecretary, Pres. Asst. for Western Visayas Raul Bañas, Gov. Isidro P. Zayco, Gov. Sally Z. Perez-Antique, PNP Reg’l. Director Isagani Cuevas, provincial officials and the various city and municipal mayors of Negros Occidental.

            La Carlota was represented by the City Social Welfare and Development Office, and the offices of the city engineer, general services, health, the Bureau of Fire Protection, the PNP and the 1-9-11 rescue group.  The Philippine Navy and the Coast Guard also joined the one-day activity.  The competitions were geared to assess the preparedness capability of the different local government units in times of disaster.  It was also aimed to strengthen their competence to handle various catastrophies.

            The competitions included busted hose techniques, vehicular extrication, and evacuation center management.  The last-named contest included criteria in provision of master list of evacuees, organization of committees, cleanliness and sanitation, and provision of activity center for children, critical incidence, and stress debriefing….RCV
