A Christmas Message
Demie John C. Honrado
City Mayor

We stand together again to celebrate the joyous season of all – the celebration of Christmas.  If there is one single occasion  that unites us it is our observance of the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.  His advent into the world was the fulfillment of God’s word in prophecies.  His mission is summed up clearly in John 3:16 – “God so loved the world that He gave his only Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

We cannot measure fully gift of God, but we have been entrusted with certain talents and abilities to make people know that God cares for them.  We do not often realize it, but we are the channel of God’s blessings to our fellowmen.  And to whom God has given so much, he expects us to do our commensurate share in fulfilling His mission to humanity.

Sometimes ago, I stood before you to make an accounting of our accomplishments.  I presume that our people see that governance is equated with public service.  We are tasked to reach out and improve the lives of our people and communities.  The enrichment of the quality of life of our people is a God-given responsibility.  It is a year-round task that does not have to wait for special occasions like Christmas.  For daily, we are obligated to impart God’s benefits to his people through sincere, dedicated and the most proper form of public service.  Christmas properly sums up all that we have done to make the year full of accomplishments.

No matter how simple, let us celebrate Christmas with a sense of gratitude.  Let us count our blessings despite the difficult times.  Let us share the small charities we have.  It is the little things that often give us the opportunity to manifest Christian love.

With these simple things we enjoy and from hearts full of sincerity, let us thank God together for the boundless gift from heaven – the Christ of Christmas.

Merry Christmas, and may the coming New Year open more opportunities for us to serve our people as God would allow us.
