Angels Visit La Carlota City Twice |
Residents from the 14 barangays of the city were privilege to avail of free medical consultations and medicines as the Zeny Palacios-Gepilano and the Urban Angels of St. Michael of Toronto, Canada launched its humanitarian project to coincide with the 5oth anniversary of La Carlota High School Class 1959. The project was supported by the city government through the office of Vice Mayor David T. Baga, Jr., Mayor Demie John C. Honrado and the other city officials. A total of 368 beneficiaries availed of the much-needed assistance. Zeny Palacios is married to Dick Gepilano of this city. She works as an OR nurse at the SMH, and was the principal initiator of the project when it began a few years ago. Their assistance has been welcomed in the province and they have been to this city two times on the same laudable endeavor. LCHS Class ’59 is headed by Ramon Brizuela – president, Nenita Gabrido – vice president and other officers as follows: Helen Talaver Sitchon – secretary, Flordeliza Bellecer Ardeña – ass’t. secretary, Ms. Nemesia F. Lim – treasurer, Ligaya Quitco Limsiaco – ass’t. treasurer, Arle Magallanes Pillado – auditor, Rude G. Broces – ass’t. auditor, Sofio Benitez – business manager, Lety Tive Juanero – ass’t. business manager, and Raul Montinola and Esterlily Gualingco – PIO’s. Members of the board of directors are Norma Catalan agle, Norman Francisco, Zenaida Galan Crespo, Santiago Bocablo Galanto and Joaquin Sardena. Composed of seven doctors, 13 nurses and three pharmacists, the professional team who labored under a sweltering heat to examine and treat patients were Dr. W. Gordon Squires, Dr. Megumi Lizuka, Dr. Meha Sharma, Dr. Jorge Cruz, Dr. Robert H. Ayland, Dr. Peter Arthur Kopplin, Dr. Glen Rogos, Dr. Carl Cheong Lee, Dr. James Douglas Hilton, Dr. Michelle N. Grinman, Dr. Jennifer Vergel de Dios, Leah P. Rodriguez, Jomar Urbita, Myla Sincioco, Michael Esguerro, Joy Visorro and Zeny P. Gepilano. The local health team was led by CHO Dr. Erwina Frances B. Jalandoni and her staff plus 30 barangay health workers, 15 midwives, barangay nutrition scholars and volunteer utility workers. Mayor Honrado was in Manila at the time in a national government convention of city chief executives so VM Baga took the responsibility of overseeing the total support of the local government with the assistance of City Admin Jerico D. Jalandoni. He thanked the visiting specialists for their intervention during this critical times. He also expressed gratitude to everyone who supported the successful humanitarian drive….RGA, RCV |
